# LPK-E0604 — pack artifact damaged or incomplete ## What it means A packed artifact is a sealed set: a release file listing every member with its hash, plus the members themselves. Publishing re-checks the seal — the format mark, the member list, each hash — and any damage, however small, stops the publish before a single byte lands in the registry. Nothing is created or changed by the refusal. Rebuilding the artifact with the pack command produces a fresh sealed set, which publishes cleanly. ## Example ```pkgtest {"files": {"law.toml": "[package]\nname = \"demo.mini\"\nversion = \"0.1.0\"\nlanguage = \"0.2\"\nnamespace = \"urn:law:demo:mini\"\n", "release.json": "{\"format\":\"bogus\",\"x\":1}"}, "cmd": ["publish", ".", "--registry", "local=newreg"], "expect": "LPK-E0604"} ``` ## Fix ```pkgtest {"files": {}, "cmd": ["init", ".", "--name", "demo.diag"]} ``` ## Engine message The tool reports this in its own wording: ```text law: REFUSAL LPK-E0604: ./release.json: format 'bogus' unsupported (need law.package-release/0.1) ``` ## Related - [Package, context, snapshots](/recipes/n-package/) — what a project directory holds.
