# LDC-E5302 — Contradictory edition lifecycle

## What it means

Closing an edition is irreversible: once an edition is repealed, expired,
or invalidated, it stays closed. A later opening event on the same
edition — back in force, restored — contradicts the closing, because
resuming a terminated edition is not a thing: the successor is a new
edition with its own provenance chain, not a revival of the old one. The
chain checker reports the contradiction at the reopening event and names
the closing it follows.

Close the lifecycle at the irreversible event, or move the later history
onto a separate edition that cites the closed one as its predecessor.
