# LDC-E1307 — Reference missing its resolution axis ## What it means A dynamic reference names a work and a locator, and it must also say when the edition is resolved: the resolution axis is a mandatory part of the node, with no default the compiler may fill in. A reference without that axis — or with an axis outside the small supported set — stops the compiler at the reference. The repair is to name the axis explicitly. With work, locator, and axis all present, the reference lowers into a complete node. ## Example ```law language "law.core" version "0.2"; package demo.diagnostics version "0.1.0"; namespace "urn:law:demo:diagnostics"; reference CURRENT { source ORDER_343; locator "article/5"; } ``` ## Fix ```law language "law.core" version "0.2"; package demo.diagnostics version "0.1.0"; namespace "urn:law:demo:diagnostics"; reference CURRENT { source ORDER_343; locator "article/5"; resolve_at context.legal_time; } ``` ## Engine message The engine reports this in its own wording: ```text example.law:5:11: error LDC-E1307: reference CURRENT: required field resolveAt is missing (§30.2) ``` ## Related - [Sources](/constructs/sources/) — works, editions, and how references address them.
