# LDC-E0206 — A value the slice does not store ## What it means Some shapes are grammar-valid but outside what the current slice keeps: an explicit numeric value on an enumeration variant, a selection of imported names in braces, an alias. The parser recognizes the shape and refuses it with its own message instead of a generic syntax error, so the author learns which construct to avoid rather than where a comma goes. The remedy is the slice form of the same declaration: variants addressed by name alone, imports without selections or aliases. Nothing else in the package changes. ## Example ```law language "law.core" version "0.2"; package demo.diagnostics version "0.1.0"; namespace "urn:law:demo:diagnostics"; enum Color { Red = 1; } ``` ## Fix ```law language "law.core" version "0.2"; package demo.diagnostics version "0.1.0"; namespace "urn:law:demo:diagnostics"; enum Color { Red; Green; } ``` ## Engine message The engine reports this in its own wording: ```text example.law:5:18: error LDC-E0206: enum variant value §38 outside slice 0.1: the variant is addressed by its name ``` ## Related - [LDC-E0201](/diagnostics/LDC-E0201/) — the sentence stops where the language does not expect it.
