# LDC-E0102 — A comment or string left unclosed ## What it means Block comments and multi-line strings have an explicit end: the closing marks for a comment, the closing quote for a string. When the file ends before that end appears, the reader cannot tell where the comment or the string was meant to stop, so it stops the whole file instead. The opening is usually fine — the fix is at the other end. Close the comment or the string where you meant it to end. If the file ends inside a comment, everything after the opening marks was swallowed, so check that no declarations were lost inside it. ## Example ```law language "law.core" version "0.2"; package demo.diagnostics version "0.1.0"; namespace "urn:law:demo:diagnostics"; /* unfinished comment ``` ## Fix ```law language "law.core" version "0.2"; package demo.diagnostics version "0.1.0"; namespace "urn:law:demo:diagnostics"; /* finished comment */ entity Applicant; ``` ## Engine message The engine reports this in its own wording: ```text example.law:5:1: error LDC-E0102: unclosed block comment /* ... */ (§16) ``` ## Related - [LDC-E0101](/diagnostics/LDC-E0101/) — a character the reader does not accept.
